It's Been a Good Run

I've been asked to take down the blog.  I am devastated and am forcing myself to figure out where I'm going from here.  I thought about simply taking it down immediately - being as it probably would have significant effect on where I hope to eventually find myself - but realized how unfair that would be to all the people who have so loyally followed my many posts these two and a half years.  I hope you understand how much all that loyalty has meant to me; I wouldn't have made it this long without all of you reading and commenting and just being there.

Perhaps I'll continue writing here and simply take down all the Hooters content, but as for now I'm not really sure.  I'm just not sure that I have much to say that would be worth reading otherwise.  I'm just not really sure of anything at the moment.  I am however sure of how much this blog has meant to me.  I've never cried while typing a post.  There have been smiles and anger and frustration, but never tears.  Until now.

Now what?

  1. THAT POSITIVELY STINKS! You've got one of the most enjoyable blogs I've found anywhere, period.

Someday in the not too distant future, when you're the Hooters corporate VP of marketing, you can help them develop a more enlightened social media policy. Until then, please let us know where on the Web you end up!

  2. How sad. I just found your blog but I loved reading the posts. If you don't mind me asking why do they want you to take it down now?

I hope you continue to post because I love the posts that aren't just about Hooters. You are a very funny woman.

  3. I am sorry to hear that. Its been a great read, your obviously intelligent and witty, Funny as well.

I think you should continue. Maybe do a slice of life thing that does not involve the name? I dunno.

Don't quit, as demoralizing and hard as it is. I think you have something to say, and I for one like what reading what you write.

  4. Would love for you to keep posting. However, don't do anything that would endanger your job and your future.

  5. Oh I've only just found your blog I can't believe they're making you stop! This blog is always so upbeat and positive and portrays Hooters really well. Actually, it's this blog that has changed my mind about the restaurant.

Is there no wriggle room? I love hearing about Hooters life.

    Totally sucks

  6. Awwwwwwwwwww:( I stumbledupon your blog and as a former hooters girl I found it very amusing! Good luck on your future blogging endeavors!

  7. I think the unanswered question is whether Hooters corporate has an issue with it or if you think it is a better choice for you. If you think it is a better choice for you, I can completely respect it. If it is a corporate decision, then it is a bad call that will lose them customers.

I was nervous about this when the company sold. I hope that it isn't a corporate decision.

  8. Just take us through your school work, even if you can't mention Hooters. And BOOO on them! You don't talk crap about the restaurant, you's think they would like the publicity! BOOOOO Hope you keep this going!

  9. Your blog totally changed my mind about Hooters and its employees. I've never been inside a Hooters but the prejudice formed by stereotypical ideas was there. I read all your posts, about Hooters or not. Whether or not you you take down the blog and make a new non-Hooters based one or just take out the Hooters content I will still read it. You haven't lost/won't lose this follower!

  10. This is crap! If they want you to take it down and still write and twitter for hooters under their name?! I'm so confused I look forward to your posts! I wouldn't have become a hooters girl if it wasn't for you showing that you can be pretty work for hooters and have a brain!

  11. I'm not sure it's appropriate for me to be specific, but rest assured this was not a personal decision on any level. I hope to continue writing in some vain and perhaps - when I've separated myself somewhat from the topic of the "Restaurant Which Shall Not Be Named" I can be a little more specific. Until then, I hope you'll stick with me and be patient while changes are made.

On a side note, does anyone know the best way to back up all my content? I would like to keep my posts rather than simply deleting them. Any advice would be appreciated.

  12. Drop box is a decent backup tool but I'm not sure if/how it would work with blog content. Love love love your blog and think you do such a good job and boosting your company's image by praising your place of employment, while most restaurant blogs do the opposite. Hooters should have be honoured to have you writing awesome things about working there.

Of course there are customer "slams" or complaints but really, anyone in the service industry (ie, your audience) is here for that! It's the only way we can keep ourselves sane is knowing that there is some other douche bag who was ruder, meaner, cheaper and more obnoxious or disgusting than the idiot we had to serve that day.

Good luck with whatever you do! Keep us posted! :)

  13. If there is a way to make the blog private, and keep corporate happy, you could do that instead of deleting it.

If not there is the long and tedious way which is by copying every post and putting in into a word document.
    I hope everything works out!

  14. Are you serious?! Pardon my french, but that is complete bullshit! I can't believe that a blog that has changed so many peoples opinions about the business needs to be taken down. If anything they should be commending you on your efforts and encouraging you to keep going. I'm a former Hooters Girl and I've related to you on so many levels because of this blog. I'm actually quite sickened by their decision. Unbelievable.

I hope what they are doing wont deter you from blogging in general. I literally check your blog at least every other day to see if you've posted because I enjoy your attitude and wit.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

  15. I Love your Blog!!! This really sucks, I'm going to be really sorry to see you go!

  16. Go back to 'Girl and a guitar' and not mention Hooters. It is their loss. You have been pro Hooters from the very beginning and if they don’t like your blog style of advertising then f’em.

I have found your posts intelligent and mostly upbeat and would miss not being able to read a blog by you anymore.

I am a large Hooters fan (I almost visit my local store everyday for lunch) and never have the bought the magazine until you became a guest writer. You brought good advertisement for the company you work for but also for yourself.

With or without Hooters you will succeed. I don’t believe you have the ‘fail’ gene in you.

Do what you feel is best for you.

  17. I'm so sorry, Sauce. I hope you keep writing in a way that will allow you to keep blogging.

  18. WOW. I guess your artistic individualism and goals were stifled by the man.

It's all good though (Eff It), back to the larger joys of ones life, recognizing more corporate logos then trees. Knowing more about capitilism then sustainability. Finding joy in bureaucracy and passing the buck rather then interpersonal communication and empathy.

Thanks for all your posts, & your outgoing personality from one artist to anther.

  19. Well, this sucks. But I guess you gotta do what you gotta do. I've enjoyed reading your blog posts for a while now and I'm really sad to see them end here so unexpectedly. In case you decide not to post after this, I want to say thank you so much for creating this blog.

  20. It's a shame you've been asked to take down your blog. I'm from the UK and had only heard of Hooters for one thing (and it's not owls or wings) before I came across your blog. You've given an awesome impression of the brand as well as an amazing read.

Please keep us posted if you continue blogging in some other way!

  21. I don't think I've commented before But among facebook, gmail, and youtube, you are in the list of daily sites I visit. This was such good press, and really made me as a woman not think of hooters as well just you know hooters. I hope you continue to write, hell even a book it takes a certain type of writer to keep my attention. It's really there loss. Thanks for everything wish you the best.

  22. Will your "Hooters According to Sauce" article still be featured in Hooters Magazine???

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't understand: how is this even possible? Like someone said above, it would be one thing if you personally weighed various options and decided that this was a necessary next step. But if that wasn't the case how can you actually be forced to close down the blog? Will you continue making other contributions (twitter, or whatever)?

All I can say is that I've followed this blog for I don't know how long now, and I've enjoyed every aspect of it, including how much you helped us to appreciate your care for your work and the people that you work with, and allowed us to see how that fit into your whole life.

This has been a special blog for many reasons, the biggest reason being the very unique young woman behind it.

All of which makes this development hard to believe, or to understand.

Do what's best for you. But I just don't understand it.

  24. Well, if you all don't bitch to corporate, they won't know anyone cares. I've unfollowed them on Twitter and unliked them on FB and let them know why; including that I won't be darkening their doors again. It's actual phone call time tomorrow.

Good luck Sauce. If I get through your town I'll break my boycott and come see you.

  25. Coming from a 38 yr old woman who has worked in biker bars and "coyote ugly" type of bars, I find your blog written honestly and not at all demeaning to the profession, your coworkers, and especially not Hooter's! Hell, if I were 10 years younger or so I might be apt to apply at the Clearwater location near my house! Would you mind if I sent a very respectful letter to your corporate office in defense of your blog? I feel you've done nothing put show Hooters in a positive light with just a few of the "no-no's" the girls would need to know about. You are a terrific journalist and Hooters is very lucky to have such a talented and beautiful team member.

  26. :( as a follower of a couple years, i'm so sad! i can't even imagine how you're feeling!
your blog is great, i know we're all going to really miss it.
i'd never had any interest in going to hooter's before i read your blog (didn't have any opinion on it, positive or negative) but i went after reading your blog. it gets them customers and helps change people's minds about it! hope this isn't a corporate decision. hope you'll continue to blog :)

  27. I have read your blog for a year or so but if it was a decision coming from corporate, it could be that one...your the only hooters in your town of Montana and could of said something that offended a customer or coworker, it is a public blog and very easy to find. Also, the use of curse language and some topics could of also been a reason that corporate would not want you to associate your blog with them. Alot of blogs that vent about or talk about their daily jobs keep the name and their identity private for a reason

  28. I'm so sorry. Your blog is one of my favorites in the industry. I hope you'll keep writing and let us all know how to keep reading.

And as for Hooters, your blog made me less judgmental of the business and way more likely to visit. Maybe not anymore.

    Good luck!

  29. i am so sorry to hear this sauce...i have truly enjoyed your blog from the start...and wish you luck in wherever you go from here!

  30. I've never commented before, but I've been a long time reader - so it's now or never!

As a feminist and anthropologist I have found your blog to be wonderful as it has offered an inside perspective on a restaurant that has been labeled sexist. You have offered an educated and articulate alternative to a traditional mindset, and while I'm sure not everyone's minds will be changed 100%, you at least get them thinking and begin to eat away at those old prejudices.

Also, as someone who has worked in the service industry, I find many posts particularly entertaining. If I weren't such a picky eater, you would have moved me to see Hooters for myself!

I wish you the best and hope you do continue blogging, albeit without the Hooters topics - you are a funny and articulate woman with a lot to say!

  31. You had convinced me hooters was a good place. Now I'm pretty sure I'll never step foot in one.

What good are the wings with no SAUCE!!!???!?!?!??!

    Stoopid hooters.

  32. I'm sad Sauce. I've only been reading your blog for a few weeks now but you definetly made me look at the typical "Hooters Girl" differently. I hope that you stay blogging, and I can clearly understand that this wasn't your decision. I hope someday we as your readers can be informed as to why you had to stop but for now I say, please STAY Sauce! Write about everything else but that place. Otherwise what will I read to make me laugh at work??? :D

  33. Sorry to hear it Sauce.

I always enjoyed the blog, didn't comment much - but you always are so positive about the brand and I thought that was a great thing.

    Good luck.

  34. Oh Sauce, I'm so sorry and my heart goes out. You've got a lot of changes swirling around you - I'm confident that all the best will come out of everything. Keep your chin up and keep being awesome!

  35. That is sad that management want you to take down the site. You was giving them good P.R..

Keep in mind that Hooters is now run by new Management (Chanticleer Holdings, Inc.) They are planning something and you do not "fit" anymore. Don't take it personal.

I wish you the best of luck.
