A Note To Managers

If a girl who was the picture of perfect health yesterday calls in ten minutes before her shift because she's "throwing up everywhere," it's probably a lie.  If it happens to be Cinco de Mayo and it happens to fall on the most beautiful day of 2011 and the above happens, it's definitely a lie.

You're so gullible, manager!  I would make that girl come in and work.  It is her job after all.

By the way, I'm pretty sure I'm already coming down with something nasty for all of Memorial Day weekend.  Apparently fibbing is going around.

  1. In situations like that I always make them come in.... OR I require a Dr's note. Then I call to verify it. I've seen a few Miraculous recoveries!

  3. Yeah, it's definitely contagious, I've discovered over the years. Especially just after a holiday.

  4. Yes definitely a lie. If party holidays are so important to you then you should at least ask off or try to get someone to cover your shift. I've never been one to care too much about that stuff. But luckily now I work for awesome people who realize it's probably better to just not be open on days like New Years day or the 4th of July. Very little business and a slew of hungover servers just isn't worth it haha

Also, just want to say that I've been reading your blog for a while and it kinda makes me want to work at Hooters :) it sounds like fun! except the one in my town is pretty awful and I don't think I'd fit a small uniform :p

  6. Dear Anonymous,
The point of this post is not to complain. The point is that in the real world there should be some accountability to your responsibilities. I realize I "just" work at Hooters, but it's still a job and if you're scheduled to work you should be there unless you have a valid reason not to be. I don't count lying as a valid reason, but maybe that's just me.

  7. lol, my newest trainee did that the day after Cinco de Mayo. And then she just called in today to tell us she's going to be gone for the entire summer starting this June and could she 'pause' her training and pick up when she comes back. Uh.... No?
