Name Change?

Way back in the ancient times of 2009, I started this blog.  Originally, the whole idea was just to basically get my thoughts out.  And the whole free part of a blog seemed a lot better than spend $9.99 a journal.  I'm cheap, it's fine.  So I started writing with no direction in particular and named what I was doing "Girl and Guitar" because I was a girl with a guitar - which I adore.  It seemed fairly logical.

Then I started to focus on the whole Hooters portion of my life.  It wasn't that I did so intentionally, it just slowly took over until it had consumed my blog.  Suddenly my little journaling project had morphed into some crazy Hooters exposé.  And I like that.  It works for me.

But I've come to realize - and not just lately - that Girl and Guitar really doesn't reflect what the blog is about anymore.  I love the name, but more than once I've contemplated changing it to something more related to the content.  So do I stick with the old or embrace something new?

So far I've come up with "Girl and Guitar Does Hooters" as a sort of way to merge the title with all the text underneath it.  Still not sure though.  I'm just not so good at this decision making crap.

So here I am asking what you think!  I'm open to suggestions.  Lots of suggestions.  Seriously.  Help a girl out.

  1. Im gonna be totally honest and admit that I've been following for awhile and at fist, I did not whole heartedly love the name. But now the thought of changing it, made me realize how much I do in fact love it. heh. You never know what you have til its gone right! My thoughts; I'm used to and love the current title but I suppose I could adust if you switched it up! I like the idea of incorporating the Hooters aspect into the name, cant wait to see what you come up with!

  4. Wow, one of the best read posts so far.

  5. I've read blogs of several servers who worked for corporations and were fired for using the company name and discussing customers in a less than flattering light. Be careful about putting the Hooters name in your title.

  6. I'd stick with the original name. It may not be where you're going, but it's where all of this came from. It has a history and an ambience.

If you do want something more descriptive you could always try, "Hooter's Girl and Guitar", or even more so, "Hooter's Girl and Guitar Writes It All Down" (or, let's it all hang out etc).
    But what do I know?

    I'm really enjoying your blog.
Please keep up the good work.

    All the best, Boonsong

  10. I just began reading your blog, and I love the name. It's what first called my attention to the blog. But I respect the wish to incorporate the majority of your content to reflect what your name says.

    Maybe:

    Hooters Girl and Guitar?

  11. To be honest, the reason I started reading this blog was because of the name, but the reason I keep reading is for all the Hooters dish. I thought of Hooters girls as twits before and it's probably because I was being a superficial bitch, now believe it or not I wish I worked there. haha. Funny how that works. I say keep the name!!

  12. im new too, but i think names like tht are really nice to keep. in my opinion, random names tht dont reflect the content at all, are pretty catchy, juust good titles.

  13. I think the name is catchy and symbolic of you. So what if you work at Hooters? It's part of your life, but doesn't really have to be part of your name.

  14. I'd keep the name. You may not always be a Hooters Girl, but you'll always be a girl with a guitar.

  15. So...I have a confession to make. I'm one of those "not so smart girls", or at least, I used to be. Then I started reading your blog. There's nothing like a quick wit to give you a virtual slap in the face and force you to take a long hard look at yourself only to see that you are, in fact, turning into one of those close minded assholes you've always detested. So thanks are in order. Thank you. I'd tip you big time if I was ever one of your customers.

What's my point? (I promise I really do have one) I started reading your blog because of the title. I come from a family of guitar players. My 12 year old is carrying on the tradition. So I took a look. Since I'm confessing my sins here I have to say that had "Hooters" been anywhere in the title...I would have moved on. It's sad but true.

I vote to keep the name as is. Some times people need to be blind-sided.

  16. Hmmm....as much as I love the name, I've gotta agree with you; it doesn't really suit the subject matter of the blog, which is totally fine.

I'd suggest something like the "Secrets of Hooters Gals," or "Hooter Girl Grad Student," something that reflects several aspects of you, especially your works, and your status as a grad students. I'd stay away from the guitar aspect though, unless you're going to incorporate that into your blog more.

    Have fun choosing a name!

  18. You may not like this but "Girl and Guitar Does Hooters" sounds a lot like a catchy porn movie title. Sorry...

  19. I completely agree with Real Mom. I also was close-minded before I became friends with a "Hooters' Girl". Don't get me wrong, I loved to eat there, but I guess I was one of those bitches who complain over the server cause they smile at my husband. Imagine my surprise when one time we ate there and while eating my husband begins arguing with me over the color of the server's hair. And he was the wrong one. He hadn't even noticed that. Broke down some serious walls for sure!

Many people will be like us and hesitate to read your WONDERFUL words if they hear the scandalous word Hooters. haha.

Either way, I'm sure we all support you!! Good luck!

  21. I contemplated a blog name change a while ago. I thought mine was boring and unoriginal so I came up with some new options and asked people what they thought. Each person said my original name was best.

I like Girl and Guitar. It may not be what your blog focuses on anymore, but if it's who you are then it fits.

  25. I'm pretty new here too, but I like the current name. "Girl and Guitar" is a good title for showing your readers that Hooters Girls are more than just big boobs in tight shirts. It gives some insight into who you are beyond the orange shorts and hot wings!

Keep up the blog, by the way. It's a great read!

  26. Found your blog just tonight and i've only read a little but think a name change would help if its the hooters angel you are looking to show.
Although every pretty girl I've know wants to be known for something more than their eye candy so I hope you keep this site alive too.
